We win, we lose

It's great that new places are opening all the time, yet we lose old friends as well. Here are just a few openings and closings.

Openings

2120 Sixth Ave is looking toward an early 2017 opening. It will be a farm-to-table restaurant brought to you by one of the co-owners of 99 Park in Bellevue, Milan Uzelac. 99 Park chef Derek Bugge is apparently creating the menu . www.2120restaurant.com

Hawk's Nest West is sibling to the Hawk's Nest in SoDo. It will be located at 2806 Alki Ave SW in West Seattle (the old Alki Huddle and, further back, Bamboo). They are hoping to open prior to Seahawk's play-off games (yes, we're using the plural).

Dough Zone plans a Seattle outpost in Publix, a mixed-use apartment complex in the International District near Uwajimaya at 504 Fifth Ave S. Construction begins this winter, so hopefully we'll see it sometime in 2017.

The Halal Guys started in New York with a hot dog cart and realized there was a real demand for a halal meal for Muslim cab drivers. They now have five carts and two restaurants in New York and are growing. Word has it they are coming to Seattle in the spring of 2017. No location has been announced. thehalalguys.com

Island Time Eatery is coming to Redmond Town Center, 7345 164th Ave NE. Watch for the grand opening during the second week of February. Expect "island-inspired cuisine." islandtimeeatery.com

Nirmal's has been offering fine Indian cuisine in Pioneer Square, and is planning an Indian pub for the South Lake Union neighborhood, at 1190 Thomas St (the old Paddy Coyne's). www.nirmalseattle.com

Closures

Marx Foods on lower Queen Anne, 144 Western Ave W, closed as a retail store after 12/31. The location may still be a pick-up spot for those who order online. Online sales will continue. www.marxfoods.com

The Wurst Place will be closing sometime in February due to the fact the building is being torn down. Until then, visit them at 510 Westlake Ave. www.thewurstplace.com

Liam's by Sugar Mountain (Beecher's, Pasta & Co., Bennett's, Maximus Minimus, The Butcher's Table) closed after service 12/31/16. It was located in the University Village.

Tini Bigs and Hula Hula closed on lower Queen Anne after a very long run due to, you guessed it, the building being torn down. If Tini rises again, it will be because they've found an older building where they fit, not a new condo/apartment complex. Let them know if you've got just the spot.
