Dock & Drink - perfect outdoor dining

Hyatt Regency at Seattle's Southport has an ideal lakeside location, including a large outdoor/dock area. How best to use it? Seasonally change things up. In summer, they offered Dock + Anchor, an outdoor bar and casual eatery. This year's winter edition takes into consideration colder weather and guest/staff safety, they've come up with Dock & Drink, the big daddy of outdoor dining.

A very large, tall tent has been erected right on the dock. Fresh air is pulled in constantly while the air inside is heated by giant propane tanks. Doors lead out to the dock. Through the clear walls of the tent, the same amazing lake view awaits.

Wanting to offer a lodge feel, they used wood tables, stacked wood against a wall, scattered fir trees, and lined the ceiling with fir boughs. Chandeliers give a romantic glow, but the biggest source of light is from the enormous TV in the middle section of the tent. If you aren't there to watch a game, ask to be seated behind it. If you are there to see the game, you are going to love it. They have a special Game Day menu that includes waffle sandwiches, vegan burritos, loaded tots, house made meatballs, and more. On weekends, the lounge offers specialty Scotch in the evenings.

As they contemplated their menu concept and pandemic restrictions that come and go, shareable plates and family-style dining made the most sense and led them right into the arms of Italy. Fresh pasta, flatbreads, beet carpaccio. Starters are great to share, but if you're hungry and don't want to share…hey, it's dinner. Entrees are large as well, like the 16 ounce New York strip or the whole grilled branzino.

Since this area will change seasonally, enjoy the "lake lodge" this winter with its creative menu. If you're a chocolate lover, you'll want to check out the Black Pearl Tiramisu for dessert. There's a lot of detail here; it's beautiful and delicious.

Dock & Drink is open seven days a week. Lounge hours Monday-Friday 3-10 p.m. and dinner 5-10 p.m. On weekends, there's a Game Day brunch from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and dinner 5-10 p.m. Self-parking is complimentary on weekends, and complimentary for two hours on weekdays. They offer pick-up and delivery options as well.
