Mark Ryan Winery

Mark Ryan McNeilly is a self-taught winemaker who worked as a wine distributor, starting Mark Ryan Winery in a garage in 1999 planning to make "the best wine in Washington state." He studied for years before his first vintage and took advice from experienced producers. Mark Ryan Winery is the 465^th registered winery in Washington.

The first two wines he made were Long Haul (for the long road he set out on) and Dead Horse (for the grapes from Ciel du Cheval vineyard). Sourcing from renowned vineyards, they create wines that show true varietal character and their own style. The wines are very popular and are sold nationally and internationally.

In Walla Walla, they've had their tasting room downtown for nearly 12 years. It has some sidewalk seating, window seats, and a rustic wood dining table that accommodates up to ten. In addition, two years ago they added THE ANNEX in The Showroom on Colville that highlights all the Mark Ryan Family labels - Lu & Oly, Megan Anne Cellars, NumbSkull, and Board Track Racer. In addition, they have a tasting room in Woodinville that also reflects Mark's style: casual atmosphere with music and motorcycles.

Winemaker Mike Macmorran became a partner in the winery in 2008.

We tasted:

2020 Chardonnay from Olsen Vineyard, 45% new oak as well as stainless and concrete.

2019 Wild Eyed Syrah from Red Mountain, Angela's Vineyard out of Efestē, 100% Syrah, showcasing the heat on Red Mountain.

2019 Long Haul Right Bank Merlot, mostly Red Mountain, some Red Willow.

Dead Horse Right Bank, 92% Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot.

Water Witch Red Wine, Red Mountain. Mark's grandfather was an actual water witch years ago. A bottle of Water Witch went home with all three of us! Delicious, like all his wines.
