October brings out the best

From Octoberfest on the lake, to dinner openings, new menu items, new flavors, and a place to escape, October is full of the best things the Northwest has to offer.

Fan Tang Asian Café

Home cooking - there's nothing like it! So when two former architects from China decided they wanted to share Chinese food as they had it growing up, it was all about quality ingredients and intense flavors. Their Pork Belly Bowl and Beef Noodle Soup (pictured) are winning rave reviews from customers. They continue to expand their menu, most recently with a new vegetarian dish called Ginger Tofu Zucchini Bowl and a Garlic Prawn appetizer. Bento Boxes now await you in their Grab 'n Go area. Pair dishes with small format local wine, beer, sake, kombucha, non-alcoholic beverages, and four flavors of organic tea.

Fan Tang Asian Café is located at 10615 NE 68th Street in Kirkland. They are open 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. Happy Hour is offered 2-5 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. 425-298-4597.

A Bit of Taste - Queen Anne Olive Oil Co.

October's flavors of the month will have your taste buds singing - Black Garlic & Ginger EVOO and Black Currant Dark Balsamic. Black garlic is mellower than regular garlic; add ginger and you have something that will step up the flavor in all kinds of dishes: burgers, fish, hot chocolate, and so much more. Black Current is tart and complex, great with pungent, salty cheeses, in salads, over yogurt. Lovely paired with Basil Olive Oil, Lemon Olive Oil, and Mandarin Olive Oil. Along with the flavors of the month, you can taste all the EVOOs and balsamics when you visit the store.

A Bit of Taste is located at 1629 Queen Anne Ave N, Suite 100, on top of Queen Anne hill. Open Tuesday-Thursday noon to 6 p.m., and Friday-Sunday noon to 5 p.m. 206-420-2989.
