The return and evolution of summer in the Northwest

Summer here is perfection. Amazing food with celebrations of seasonal greats, and that blue, blue sky. This year our favorite things are altered by global issues, but have faith! Even a pandemic can't keep us down.

Elliott's Oyster House

We do love our oysters and Elliott's has been enabling us since 1975. Right now you can enjoy a freshly-shucked oyster on the half shell for just $2 during Oyster Happy Hour. Oysters are great anyway, but these freshest-of-the-fresh are even better as you savor them while you're on the water. What a view and enduring legacy. Now we jump to a current issue: how is Elliott's protecting the health and well-being of guests and staff? You can find all the info you need by clicking here, but suffix it to say, you are in good hands. Enjoy with confidence!

 Tinte Cellars

Everyone wants to make world-class wines. Tinte Cellars owners have a second goal in mind: the greater good. Tim Gamble and Teresa Spellman Gamble launched Tinte in 2018; their first year donations to charitable organizations totaled more than $170,000. Each year they choose a few nonprofits to receive a portion of all wine sales. 2020 recipients are Mary's Place, Northwest Harvest, and Seattle Children's Behavioral Health Crisis Care Clinic. That second goal is a lock. What about the first? They walked away with four golds and two silvers from the 2020 Seattle Wine Awards. 2020 Mission accomplished. On to 2021!

Tinte Cellars is located at 19495 144th Ave NE, A-100, in Woodinville, and open for reservation-only tastings Mon-Thurs noon-4 p.m., Fri 3-5 p.m., Sat-Sun noon-6 p.m. Book your tasting at Extra measures have been taken to ensure tasting experiences are fun and safe. Hollywood Tavern

Open again for dine-in meals, guests enjoy the dining room as well as everyone's favorite, the patio and fire pit. Another bonus: The Knoll, a new area just outside the tavern via a set of stairs where friends can gather, weather permitting. Physical comfort, yes, but also eating comfort with food that inspires: Mabel's Cajun Chicken Sandwich, fried pickles, The Tavern CBLT (chicken, bacon lettuce, tomato, avocado spread), fall-off-the-bone pork ribs, cod & chips. Don't forget their seasonal cocktails and Woodinville Whiskey milk shakes. Take-out orders are available, orders must be placed online. Welcome back to this historic Woodinville spot!

The Lakehouse

Vibrant, farm-inspired craft cooking from Chef Jason Wilson makes this Bellevue spot a worthy destination. Every dish has a story behind it and an artisan hand that has touched it. The spacious dining room makes you feel like you're on vacation. Flavors keep you coming back for more: grilled organic carrots with olive oil-lime whipped yogurt, toasted seeds, fresh herbs. Seared sea scallops with king oyster mushroom, corn pudding, pinot noir-thyme sauce and cherries. Impossible to resist. Takeout and touchless to-go items include picnic kits, Date Night Dinners, Burger Boxes, Cocktail Packages, and items from their pantry and family meals.

Dine & Donate

Pike Place Market's food and wine extravaganza, Sunset Supper, has been postponed until 2021, but the Market and our local restaurants still need your support. Dine & Donate is a way to do both! Consider the normal Sunset Supper ticket or table price and spend that at Sunset Supper partner restaurants ( click here to see the list ) AND donate to the Power of Pike Place Recovery Fund. Dining out supports the restaurants that make Sunset Supper such a great event, and the recovery fund invests in social services, small businesses, and people at Pike Place Market. Pledge today!

Dine & Donate takes place August 14-21, the week the Market celebrates its 113 th anniversary. Take the pledge and support these community-centric restaurants and producers, along with all the Market's people and small businesses.

Castilla Restaurant

Let's face it. You're not going to Spain this year. Luckily, we have Castilla in Bellevue where you can get all those vibrant Spanish flavors and textures. Maybe just eating outside your house is still a reach. Still no problem. Order from their online menu and you can pick up your choices and take them home. Or you can thrill your "bubble tribe" with a catered experience. Either way, you have so many good decisions to make: which tapas, hot/cold? Mushrooms, calamari, chorizo? Paella mixta, squid ink, or vegetarian? Pork tenderloin with Valdeon cheese sauce? Gazpacho? Flatbreads? Time to order!

Castilla is located at 504 Bellevue Square in downtown Bellevue. Curbside pickup is directly behind Castilla in the Bellevue Square NE parking lot (stalls 100-115), Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m.-9 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Chef Clara can cater your paella party on your patio or other venue while you savor sangria and tapas. 425-625-2931.

The Nest, Thompson Seattle

It's untrue that you can outrun COVID, but you can feel like you're out of reach while at The Nest on top of Thompson Seattle. So high above the city, overlooking Elliott Bay and the Olympics, anxiety drops away. It continues to drop with your choice of the Pea Diddy cocktail, pea flower-infused Ketel One vodka, Giffard passionfruit, lemon, tiki bitters and that hip hop icon vibe; it just helps. Knowing that $1 from each Pea Diddy will be donated to the Pike Place Market Foundation makes it better with each sip. It's time for a getaway to The Nest.

Wing Dome

Dining out doesn't always have to be fancy schmancy - sometimes you just need a break from your own four walls. Wing Dome has been bringing the heat since 1994 and with three locations can help you make the escape to wing heaven. With patio seating you get a breath of fresh air and late night happy hour! You can feel secure knowing the Dome is following the strictest safety guidelines, including household members only for indoor dining.
