Colors are muted and booths and tables are fairly private. The Mediterranean menu includes tapas and full meals. Entrees are few but cover a lot of ground--steak, chicken, pork, lamb, tuna and paella (vegie, seafood and seafood with chicken). You may even find lobster paella occasionally. Their tapas menu is where you'll find the most variety from a Spanish cheese platter to slow-braised ox tail to manila clams in a green herb sauce to pan-fried goat cheese over sweet onion and pine nut chutney. Downstairs, the bar is the focal point with counter seats to view the kitchen action and chat with your counter-neighbors. Upstairs is a private dining area with a view of Lake Union and the city. Dark tones hide one another while rose colored lights guide the way into this romantic lounge spot. The ever-changing menu of dishes ('Tapas Nuevos') delights the taste buds as you sip on exclusive beverages from the bar or a glass of wine from their wide selection. Originally built by Paramount studios as a film storage facility, owners Charlie Bucy and Richard Hemsley have created a nice lounge for locals, but can accommodate large parties with two private rooms in the rear. And ladies - don't miss the restroom which is its own mini lounge complete with dome and full bar service. Kind of fun when you walk in, almost necessary as you walk out after a few cocktails--it's nice to have the exit marked so clearly. Great looking lounge area to the right. This place is so nuevo that the sinks are co-ed outside the bathrooms. Although the main dishes look very intriguing, it's hard to get away from the tapas. Licorous   206-325-6947     928 12th Ave, Seattle   Capitol Hill Small plates plus just a few suppers and some sweets inhabit this menu. Interesting cocktail choices are at hand and it's a great spot to meet friends and have a casual evening. You can't go wrong with John Sundstrom's food (James Beard winner, you know) and the place is intimate with seating around the edges and a long bar.   Specializing in Cocktails, Tapas.

Ocho   206-784-0699     2325 NW Market, Seattle   Ballard Grab a table or a spot at the bar and prepare to enjoy looking over the list of Spanish tapas. We must say that you have to like a place that states clearly on the menu "*contains raw food, which could kill you." If we were all so direct, drug ads on TV would be so much shorter. In any case, you will not die here unless it is from happiness. Pair beer, wine, cocktails, sherry and port with your food and start relaxing. Tango   206-583-0382     1100 Pike St, Seattle   Capitol Hill This restaurant is housed in an old porn house, but manages to maintain a classy yet sexy feel to it. The entrees are limited but the tapas are excellent, interesting and numerous. And speaking of numerous, check out the tequila and rum choices. Wann Japanese Izakaya   206-441-5637     2020 2nd Ave, Seattle   Belltown Izakaya restaurants in Japan are informal restaurants/bars where sharing plates and relaxing over drinks is the way to unwind. Wann serves shochu, a drink they say is overtaking sake in popularity. Food items include Kobe beef tongue steak, mussels, yakitori, sashimi, rolls, all kinds of seafood, short ribs and more.
