Dance floors in clubs are often extremely small, with dancers bumping each other out of time to the music. Well, strap on your leather-soled dancing shoes and head to Capitol Hill and the 3,000 square foot dance floor at the Century Ballroom. A tiny gem, Cichetti is a Venetian cichetti (tapas) bar meant to be a place to come with friends or alone, have a cocktail or glass of wine and some amazingly delicious food from the woodburning oven. Downstairs, the bar is the focal point with counter seats to view the kitchen action and chat with your counter-neighbors. Upstairs is a private dining area with a view of Lake Union and the city. Cichetti is a lively spot you'll want to visit more than once.

Started as a billiards hall, Garage has expanded into bowling as well. If you find one, you've found the other. Lots of chrome and vinyl reflect the building's original use--an auto repair garage. They share a restaurant that offers small plates, big plates, soups and salads. There's also a bar menu that offers more casual food like burgers and sandwiches. Full bar. Must be over 21 to be here, although minors can enjoy the restaurant until 10 p.m.

People who know Moroccan food and style are saying this place gets it right. Furnishings are custom-made and decorative items imported for a true Moroccan feel. Three separate rooms have distinct styles--dropped ceiling, tent ceiling, hanging brass lamps. You are welcomed into the Kasbah on a red carpet leading to a tile fountain. The chef is Moroccan and offers traditional and family dishes--lamb stew, tagine, hen with lemon and olives and much more. Go a la carte or try the five-course meal, all at very reasonable prices. Entertainment is offered Thursday through Saturday evenings.

Even with lots of windows, this space feels warm and intimate. Earth tones and hand-painted chandeliers do the trick. As with all Tom Douglas restaurants, you'll find interesting items on the menu, this time with a Greek bent. Great bar with fun drinks.

Located in a well-known intimate spot on Capitol Hill in the Loveless Building, Olivar already has a lot going for it. Wall murals from a much-earlier restaurant remain. And it just gets better from there with a menu that offers choice without overwhelming--hot and cold small plates, 5-6 large plates and just a few desserts to calm that sweet tooth.

When Saffron Grill moved into this space, they softened the edges with drapes, removed some interior walls to create a more open feel and left the brick walls, creating a very appealing place for a meal. Both Indian and Mediterranean dishes are offered; decisions may not be easy. Expect curries, tandoori, a number of vegetarian items as well as kabobs, falafel and gyros. The full bar has its own menu and some great bartenders.

From the desert scene painted on the front window to the blue interior walls with ivory designs, the Mediterranean theme comes shining through. Blue and white linens and middle Eastern music complete the picture. The Mansour family operates three restaurants, one in Beirut, one in Burnaby, B.C. and this one. To sample various flavors, try the mezza plate for two, or the house special.

The University district is full of restaurants to choose from, and many are casual in the extreme. The Spice Rack offers a slightly more upscale option, although still casual. A patterned wallpaper border hugs the ceiling and gray fabric high-backed chairs complement deep pastel yellow walls. Indian and Mediterranean dishes vie for attention.
